If you have ever attended a baby shower or child’s birthday party, it’s likely that the typical color scheme was present: blue for boys and pink for girls. The tradition of using these specfic colors goes back to around the 1800s during which these colors began to be more closely associated with gender. Before this time in history, almost all babies were dressed in white with colors like pink and blue being used interchangeably to decorate nurseries. The opinions about which color would be used to represent certain genders varied across the world. For example, in France, it was a trend to use pink for girls, while pink was actually used as a staple color for boys in the Midwest United States for a while. It wasn’t until the turn of the century when a number of books about infant development were released that encouraged parents to begin to distinguish between gender at an early age. One way in which parents could do this, according to the books, was to choose to dress their children in specific colors that would reflect their gender, ie. blue for boys, pink for girls.
Over time, there have been definitely ebbs and flows regarding when men found it appropriate to wear pink and when they did not. However, in recent years, this trend has begun to reemerge with a vengeance. If you are interested in learning how you can wear pink as a man while feeling confident and comfortable, continue reading below.
While pink hasn’t always been in style for men, you may have noticed that it has started to become a bit more common in recent years. On the other hand, it still does take a pretty high level of self-confidence for a man to choose to wear pink. You may not be aware, but that extra swagger that is held by men who don pink on the regular actually has been shown to lead to them making more money and getting them more compliments from women. If you want to stand out from the crowd, we say skip the blue and white shirts and try out a pink shirt every once in awhile.
When it comes to what shade of pink you should wear, it really depends on your skin tone. Men who have darker complexions should stick to light or pastel pink. Alternatively, if you have a lighter complexion, you will look best in a dark pink. We wouldn’t recommend fuchsia by any means, but there are many shades that can look great on all men. We would suggest that you try out several different shades by holding them against your skin to see if they make you look better or if they wash you out. The right shade of pink will be obvious to you once you find it.
If you are a bit hesitant to commit to wearing a solid pink shirt, there are other ways you can begin to introduce this color into your wardrobe. At Stone Rose, we have plenty of options that you can choose from including our White Bowler Hat Print Fil-Coupe and our Berry Shark Print Short Sleeve Shirt.
